Nike or PUMA for football boots? It's one of the most common questions from weekend players, junior squads and 5-a-side regulars. Before we get to it, one honest note from our live stock check in October 2026: PUMA's football boots (FUTURE and ULTRA) are not currently available at LUZActive, while Nike's full boot range is. So this guide shows you what's in stock from Nike, how to choose between its three families, and how Nike compares with PUMA's approach so you can decide whether it's worth waiting or looking elsewhere.
LUZActive is an independent multi-brand retailer, not an official partner of Nike or PUMA. All prices are landed AUD, GST and duties included under our Landed Price Guarantee. Because the same boot is often listed in several colourways at different prices, we show the range in stock.

Mercurial Vapor: For Speed
Mercurial is Nike's speed family: a light, low-cut boot for wingers, strikers and anyone who wins races to the ball. The Vapor 16 Academy ($95–$104) is the budget way in and works on firm natural grass and many artificial surfaces (FG/MG). The Vapor 16 Pro ($140) is the match-level version, and the Vapor 17 Club ($175, FG or TF) is the newer generation. If you want PUMA's closest equivalent, that's the ULTRA line, which we don't currently stock.
Phantom 6 Low: For Precision
The Phantom family is built for passing, shooting and close control, with a textured striking area. The Phantom 6 Low Academy ($128) is the entry point, and the Phantom 6 Low Club and Pro ($175) step up to a more refined fit. Players who like to dictate play from midfield tend to gravitate here. PUMA's FUTURE line, built around agility and a locked-in fit, is the nearest rival in philosophy, but it's not currently in stock.
Tiempo: For Touch
Tiempo is Nike's classic touch family, aimed at defenders and midfielders who value a natural feel on the ball. The Tiempo Legend 10 Academy and Tiempo Maestro Academy are both $104 and are the most affordable route to a touch-focused boot in our range. The Tiempo Maestro Club TF ($163) is the turf version.
Pick the Right Soleplate for Your Surface
- FG (firm ground): natural grass in good condition.
- MG (multi-ground): works across firm grass and some artificial pitches. The Academy boots above are FG/MG.
- TF (turf): shorter, more numerous studs for artificial turf, common in 5-a-side. We stock Nike TF options (Tiempo Maestro Club, Phantom 6 Low Club and Mercurial Vapor 17 Club), so check the product page for ground type before buying.
- SG (soft ground): longer studs for wet, muddy grass.
Wrong soleplate means less stability and a shorter boot life, so check the product page for ground type.
Who Should Buy Which
- Junior or first boot, on a budget: Mercurial Vapor 16 Academy or Tiempo Academy at about $95–$104.
- Quick wingers and strikers: Mercurial Vapor 16 Pro or Vapor 17 Club.
- Midfield playmakers: Phantom 6 Low Academy, Club or Pro.
- Defenders who want touch and comfort: Tiempo Legend 10 or Maestro.
- 5-a-side on artificial turf: any of the Club TF boots.
Nike vs PUMA: What's the Difference?
Nike splits its boots by role: speed (Mercurial), precision (Phantom) and touch (Tiempo). PUMA splits by movement: agility (FUTURE, with a compression-band fit) and pace (ULTRA). In practice, Nike gives you more role-specific choice and a deeper budget range, while PUMA appeals to players who want a locked-in, adaptive fit. Since PUMA boots aren't currently in our range, our PUMA vs adidas football boot guide covers the adidas alternatives.
Sizing
Football boot fit is less forgiving than a running shoe: half a size off can affect touch and stability. Use our Nike Men's Footwear Size Guide and Nike Women's Footwear Size Guide, and consider trying boots with the socks you play in.
